Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

In Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, players take the role of a cadet at starfleet academy. Over the course of the game they learn to pilot a starship over a series of missions. They have the opportunity to play out famous scenarios such as the Kobayashi Maru and Kirk’s confrontation with Khan Noonien Singh. The player can also interact with a number of subplots involving Vanguard and tensions along the Klingon Neutral Zone. It was one of the first Star Trek games to utilize FMV instead of simple voiceovers.

Brian came up with the game’s only trilogy of levels over lunch with his wife, Juliet. These levels were among the most popular with fans of the game. They featured an introduction by Walter Koenig, Pavel Chekov, a Romulan conspiracy, and a device intended to destroy a sun. George Takei said Brian’s levels were among his favorites because they had a stronger humor element.

Brian also designed the Kobayashi Maru level and determined how Kirk cheated. His solution was later featured in one of the licensed novels, making it official canon.
