Minecraft: Story Mode is a point-and-click adventure based on the sandbox video game Minecraft. It follows the same episodic format as Telltale games like Tales from the Borderlands, The Walking Dead, and The Wolf Among Us. Players collect items and solve puzzles to advance the game’s story, and many of the decisions they make have consequences later in the episode or in future episodes.

Working on Season One, Episode 4, was both challenging and rewarding. It was the end of the first story arc and it was extremely important to stick the landing. Episode 6 was Brian’s favorite to work on. The murder mystery was a great change of pace for the game and working with famous Minecraft streamers was a ton of fun. Captainsparklez, Dan TDM, Stacy Plays, Stampy Cat, and LD Shadowlady came down to the studio to record VO for their characters. The excitement didn’t end there however; the YouTubers all eventually played the episode on their channels.

Designing puzzles for the game was also a challenge. The open-world nature of Minecraft normally means that players can solve puzzles in a variety of ways. However, because the game was being adapted to a point-and-click format, the team had to create puzzles that were self-contained while still giving the player the open-world feel they’re used to.
